Plymouth Voyager Transmission Clunk
Q: I am hoping you can help me regarding a problem I have been
having with my 1994 Plymouth Voyager. It is a problem with the transmission,
where the car will actually jerk or "clunk" as it shifts from
1st to 2nd gear, especially when going slow, as in the stop and go traffic.
Ive had the vehicle to the Chrysler service department numerous
times and even had the engine mounts replaced, but the problem continues.
They tell me it noticeably shifts harsh, but that is typical of 3 speed
Chrysler vehicles. I don't know if this is true or not, because they haven't
given me any examples to test. I hope you can shed some new light on this
problem, as it has become a source of frustration.
A:
With your transmission the fluid level and
linkage adjustments are critical and must be set correctly. If no other
cause can be identified, this ALLDATA Information Systems TSB may
be the solution. TSB # 18-07-95 Rev. A addresses shifting problems on
1990 to 1995 Town & Country, Caravan and Voyager. The symptoms or
condition is the vehicle owner complaining of harsh conditions when the
transmission shifts. Of the 5 conditions one addresses 1st to 2nd gear
shifts.
This transmission
update requires the replacement of several internal transmissions parts.
If all other approaches have failed then your vehicle may very well be
a candidate for this service bulletin.
