Missing Gasket Freezes Silverado

Owners of certain 2014-2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2017-2019 Chevrolet Express models equipped with GM’s 8L45 and 8L90 transmissions may experience a condition where the vehicle suddenly refuses to move following a valve body replacement. Not slipping. Not shuddering. Just sitting there like a teenager asked to unload groceries.

GM Technical Service Bulletin PIP6086 identifies the issue as a missing pump rotor gasket found on some remanufactured valve bodies. Without the gasket in place, the transmission suddenly has no interest in moving the vehicle anywhere, which creates a pretty significant problem when the goal is getting a 5,000-pound truck moving under its own power.

Before condemning the entire transmission and preparing for a conversation nobody wants to have, GM says the fix may be far less dramatic. Technicians are instructed to remove the newly installed valve body and inspect the transmission oil pump for the missing gasket. If the gasket is absent, the bulletin directs technicians to document the PUN number, open a TAC case, install the appropriate pump seal kit, and re-evaluate the repair.

The detailed repair procedure is included in the TSB.
