Ford F-150 Instrument Cluster Does Not Light Up
Vehicle: 2014 Ford F-150, 4WD, V6-3.5L Turbo, Automatic Transmission/Transaxle
Mileage: 157,094 Miles
Problem: The owner’s concern was that, when the ignition is in the ON position, the instrument cluster did not light up. Once the engine started, the cluster worked normally.
Case Details: Using ALLDATA Repair wiring diagrams and a fuse identification chart for reference, the technician checked the ignition switch for voltage on the BLU/WHT wire in the start position, and it was good. With ignition ON, he noticed that the body control module (BCM) fuse numbers: 33, 34, 35, 36, and 37 had no power until the engine was started.
He found the VIO/GRN wire at BCM pin #35 (C2280B) from ignition switch had no power with the ignition ON. Based on the wiring diagram, there should have been battery voltage on pin #35. When the technician traced that wire to the ignition switch, he found a bad connection. It looked like it may have had a remote starter connected to the ignition switch wire. When it was removed, the connection was not repaired correctly.
Confirmed Repair: Once the technician repaired the connection, he turned the ignition to the ON position. All the BCM fuses had battery voltage, and the lights came on in the instrument cluster. Problem solved!
