Vehicle: 2020 Dodge Ram 2500, 2WD, V8-6.4L, Automatic Transmission/Transaxle

Mileage: 96,845 Miles

Problem: The customer’s concern was that the battery would die overnight. He replaced the battery, but the problem remained.

Case Details: Once in the shop, the technician checked the charging system. He noticed that the amperage fluctuated between 0.7 amps and 3.9 amps. Also, the instrument cluster intermittently showed an "Apply Brake and Press Start Button" message. This cycled about every 15 seconds, even if the key was nowhere near the truck.

The technician checked for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) in the right-front hub module, and he also looked for an antenna signal. None were found. It was time to call an ALLDATA Tech-Assist consultant.

The consultant advised using the fuse mV voltage drop test to isolate the fuse(s) responsible for the circuit causing the draw.

During testing, the technician noticed that the indicator light on the power mirror convex switch was staying on. He pulled the switch for a closer inspection. It was full of corrosion. When he unplugged the switch, the battery drain was gone.

Confirmed Repair: A new power mirror convex switch was installed, and the battery was able to recharge. Problem solved!
