Suburban Reverse Lamps and Backup Camera Always On
Vehicle: 2022 Chevy Suburban, 4WD, L6-3.0L DSL Turbo, Automatic Transmission/Transaxle
Mileage: 193,004 Miles
Problem: The operator of this airport shuttle complained that both the reverse lights and backup camera screen stayed on with the engine running. Nothing happened with the engine off. The reverse camera and lights also came on when stepping on the brake pedal.
Case Details: The tech connected a scan tool and found the following diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs):
- U1103 - Lost Communication with Rear Closure Hands Free Module
- U152B - Body Control Module LIN Bus 7
Not being too familiar with this system, he called ALLDATA Tech-Assist for some diagnostic ideas. The consultant said that if pressing the brake pedal caused the camera and lights to come on, the circuits were likely shorted together. He recommended starting at the taillamp assemblies and then moving forward from there.

The technician inspected the wiring harness as advised and found circuits 6995 and 7541 had shorted together at the right taillamp housing.
Confirmed Repair: He repaired the short circuit between the wires, cleared the DTCs, and tested the vehicle in the shop and on the road to verify the repairs. Problem solved!
