According to Porsche Technical Information bulletin 17/18, excessive carbon buildup on the intake valves and intake ports can cause knocking combustion under high-load conditions. Before replacing ignition components, sensors or internal engine parts, Porsche says to inspect the intake valves and ports for carbon deposits first.
