Vehicle: 2004 Ford Truck Escape 2WD V6-3.0L VIN 1
Problem: The vehicle was brought in because the engine intermittently hesitated and bogged on acceleration. The MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light) was on. The problem had occurred only three times before.
Details: The technician retrieved DTCs P0190 – fuel rail pressure sensor circuit, P2196 – B1S1 O2 sensor stuck rich and P2198 – B2S2 O2 sensor stuck rich. After reviewing the live scan tool data, the tech called the Tech-Assist team. The Tech-Assist consultant suggested checking the EVAP (evaporative) system for fuel intrusion in the evaporative canister or a restricted vent valve. He also recommended comparing the mechanical fuel pressure gauge readings with the scan tool’s fuel pressure sensor PID.
Confirmed Repair: The technician checked the EVAP system and confirmed that there was no fuel intrusion in the evaporative canister and the vent valve was operating correctly. When he could duplicate the bogging problem, he noticed that the manual fuel pressure gauge read 100+ psi but the scan tool’s fuel pressure sensor PID read only 30 psi. The technician replaced the fuel rail pressure sensor and the problem was resolved.
