Vehicle: 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe, AWD, 2.0L Turbo, Automatic Transmission
Problem: The park assist system was inoperative. There was also no audio warning when the vehicle was in close proximity to objects in front of it.
Details: The vehicle had been in a front-end collision and was in the body shop for repairs. After the repairs were made and the vehicle returned to the customer, the vehicle was returned to the body shop because the park assist system was not working properly.
The Tech-Assist consultant advised the body shop tech to connect a scan tool and check for diagnostic trouble codes in the body control module (BCM). There were none so next they looked at live perimeter identification data (PID). In the BCM, the park assist sensor PID data showed a “Warning” message, which never changed whether something was in front of the vehicle or not.
The body shop tech removed the front bumper to gain access to the park assist sensor and found the green LIN BUS wire and the black ground wire were damaged and shorting together. The shorted wires were interrupting communication to the BCM.
Confirmed Repair: The body shop tech repaired the wires and retested the park assist system. It was fully operational.
