Vehicle: 2011 Ford Taurus, FWD, V6-3.5L, Automatic Transmission/Transaxle

Mileage: 162,556

Problem: This Taurus with the 6F50 automatic transaxle arrived with a complaint of "transmission slipping" in certain gears.

Case Details: The technician verified that there was indeed an RPM flare during the 3-4 upshift. He connected and scan tool but found no diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). He called ALLDATA Tech-Assist for some diagnostic guidance.

One of the Tech-Assist consultants recommended checking the ATF level and condition first. Smell for burnt fluid, then look and feel for metal contamination or excessive clutch friction material in the fluid.

He also advised connecting the scan tool and finding a menu selection called "Transmission Adaptive Tables Reset" or something very similar. The consultant recommended performing this procedure then re-evaluate the shift quality.

Confirmed Repair: The technician found that the transmission fluid was clean and full. After he used his scan tool to run the Transmission Adaptive Tables Reset, the 3-4 shift flare vanished. Fixed!
