Problem: The customer brought their Ford F59 to the shop with the malfunction indicator light (MIL) on. The truck would not accelerate after hitting a bump, then the MIL would light up.

Case Details: The technician connected a scan tool and found the following diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) in the power control module (PCM):

• P0522-00 - Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch 'A' Low: No Sub Type Information
• P06A7-00 - Sensor Reference Voltage 'B' Circuit Range/Performance: No Sub Type Information

On a test drive, the technician verified that after hitting a bump, the engine would not accelerate and would set those DTCs. Also, the hill assist, advance track and traction control would become disabled.

While performing an under-hood inspection, the technician found the wiring harness going to the fan clutch was frayed from rubbing on the water pump pulley. When the truck hit a bump, the power wires to the fan clutch would go to ground and trigger the DTCs and cause all the other issues.

Confirmed Repair: The technician repaired the wires and replaced both drive belts. After clearing the DTCs, he went on a test drive over some bumpy roads. The engine ran fine. The hill assist, advance track and traction control systems worked normally and there were no DTCs. Interesting fix for a weird problem!
