Problem: A squeak in the right front of the truck was driving the owner crazy. He spent hours trying to find the source. When he couldn’t find the source, he took the truck to the shop to let the technicians share the fun. The squeaking sound was happening while the truck was running 20-30 mph and above. Going above 55 mph made it sound like something grinding behind the tire.

Case Details: Two technicians took the truck out a few times then put it up on a rack to determine the source. There were no obvious problems. Then, while the truck was sitting in a stall, one of the technicians hit the wheel liner by accident, which re-created the exact same squeaking sound. It turns out one of the bolts that held the wheel liner in place was loose. The 2020 Silverado features an aerodynamic fender vent that channels airflow into the wheel well. As the speed increased, the wind would push on the loose part of the liner causing it to rub against something and make noise.

Confirmed Repair: The technician went around and tightened all the wheel well liner bolts and took the truck for a test drive. No more noise. Easy fix!
