About David

I grew up on a farm/ranch in Northern California. From an early age, I was interested in working on the farm equipment with my dad and grandfather. They taught me a lot of the basic foundations of cleaning, repairing, and maintaining the equipment, from the lawnmowers to the Caterpillar tractors and everything in between. It was then that I fell in love with working with my hands.

I took an automotive shop class in high school and after graduation, went on to trade school where I learned more advanced diagnostic skills. This was also where I worked my first professional job in a service station garage under a Journeymen Technician.

After trade school, I found myself working as a fleet mechanic for a mobile tire repair service. This is where I picked up the skills of dispatching, as well as being responsible for working on and maintaining the fleet of five service trucks.

I decided to leave the fleet position to become a dealership technician. My first stop was at a Dodge/Yugo dealership, but I eventually moved on to Jeep/Mazda and Chrysler, which also included Kia and Suzuki. This is really where I was able to advance my diagnostic and repair skills. I worked on everything – from carburetors to automatic transmissions as well as the ins and outs of the day-to-day dealership operations. My busy workload really helped me hone my skills. This led me to obtain my ASE Master and L1. I was also given the Top Tech Award for Chrysler.

In my spare time over the years, I have had many hobbies, but the most fun hobby was rebuilding my son’s first car with him. It was a 1976 Chevy Nova. We did everything mechanical to that car, starting with rebuilding the front suspension, the turbo 350 automatic transmission, the rear diff and the small block V8. We upgraded the engine from a 350 to a 383 stroker. It was my favorite because not only did we do it together, but I was also able to pass some of my knowledge down to him.
