Vehicle: 2022 Toyota 4Runner, 4WD, V6-4.0L (1GR-FE), Automatic Transmission/Transaxle

Mileage: N/A

Problem: The knock sensor removal and replacement procedure states that you need to remove the water outlet pipe to access the knock sensor. To remove the water outlet pipe, the bank 1 cylinder head needs to be removed. That procedure takes about 20 hours.

Case Details: You can take off the outlet pipe without removing the head by first removing the front and rear outlet pipe mounting nuts, then removing the studs. Once that’s done, the water outlet pipe can be moved back and rotated enough to get it out past the cylinder head and out.

Confirmed Repair: Now the job only takes an estimated 5-6 hours! You can still make good money on the job, and the customer will be extremely happy with labor savings.
