Fuse Block Causes Chevy Express Left Engine Bank to Misfire

Vehicle: 2016 Chevy Express 3500, V8-6.0L, Automatic Transmission/Transaxle

Mileage: 166,964 miles

Problem: The customer’s concern was that while the van usually runs great, it sometimes barely runs at all. Also, the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) comes on. The customer, who owns a lawn care service and pulls a trailer with the van every day, said it seems like the problem occurs when the StabiliTrak light comes on.

Case Details: The technician noted that the van was running fine on his first test drive. He connected a scanner and found the following eight injector circuit diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs):

Express Left Bank Diagram
  • P0201 - Cylinder 1 Injector Circuit
  • P0203 - Cylinder 3 Injector Circuit
  • P0205 - Cylinder 5 Injector Circuit
  • P0207 - Cylinder 7 Injector Circuit
  • P0261 - Cylinder 1 Injector Circuit Low
  • P0273 - Cylinder 5 Injector Circuit Low
  • P0267 - Cylinder 3 Injector Circuit Low
  • P0279 - Cylinder 7 Injector Circuit Low

Since the technician had not run into this problem before and the van was currently running in the shop with no misfires or injector problems, he decided to call ALLDATA Tech-Assist.

The consultant advised that all the injector circuit DTCs on one bank would indicate a power feed or ground circuit issue for all the injectors in that bank. They all get their power from a 20A fuse #F65. He also advised checking for circuit or connection issues in the fuse box, looking for green corrosion or loose pin fitment, and checking the grounds at the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

NOTE: The StabiliTrak light came on because of the DTCs, and the MIL was on.

Fuse #65 was good and tight in the terminal, but when the engine started running bad, the technician tapped on the fuse box and the engine ran smoothly.

Confirmed Repair: The technician replaced the fuse box, cleared all the DTCs and went for a test drive. The engine ran perfectly and had no further issues. Fixed!
