Vehicle: 2015 Hyundai Sonata, L4-2.4L, Automatic Transmission/Transaxle

Mileage: 76,332 Miles

Problem: The owner brought the Sonata to the shop because there were multiple warning lights on in the dash and the tachometer showed zero RPMs.

Case Details: When the technician connected a scan tool, he found that there was no communication with any module. A quick call went out to an ALLDATA Tech-Assist consultant who provided some simple diagnostic tests.

The consultant suggested finding what was causing the lack of communication by first testing the C-CAN network resistance, advising if it was not within specifications (55-65 ohms), then start disconnecting components on the network one at a time to see if one or more of them are taking the network communications down.

When the technician tested C-CAN network was 30 ohms. Too low. He began disconnecting components one at a time on the C-CAN network. He found that when he disconnected the backup camera, network communication returned.

Confirmed Repair: The technician replaced the backup camera. The lights in the dash went out and the tachometer began working again. Problem solved!
