Vehicle: 2010 Toyota Corolla, L4-1.8L (2ZR-FE), Automatic Transmission/Transaxle

Mileage: 131,556 miles

Problem: The Corolla was brought to the shop because, although the engine ran OK, and all the fuses were good, the cooling fan was not coming on, the tachometer was not working, and the ABS warning light, steering light and brake warning lights were all on in the dash.

Case Details: The technician connected a scan tool only to find no communication with any module. A quick call to ALLDATA Tech-Assist provided an easy answer. The Tech-Assist consultant said that the problems with this Corolla were quite common. A shorted out steering angle sensor (SAS) can cause all the symptoms the technician was experiencing, including the lack of communication with the modules. The consultant advised unplugging the connector from the SAS to see if everything goes back to normal.

The technician disconnected the SAS, and all the warning lights went off; everything began working again, and communication with the modules was restored.

Confirmed Repair: After replacing the SAS, the technician went on a good test drive. All the warning lights remained off, and everything worked fine. Easy fix!
