TIPS FOR CHANGING HYUNDAI® BUMPER COVERS
Jul. 16 2015
Jul. 16 2015

This Tech Tip is based on a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) issued by Hyundai® and covers 2010 model-year Hyundai Tucson® (LM) vehicles produced from December 15, 2009. TSBs describe known conditions or manufacturer-recommended changes in procedures and processes.

IMPORTANT: If you are replacing a previous design rear bumper cover with new design, the existing retainers must be simultaneously replaced with the new design. Be sure to follow the interchangeability table information and directions described in this Tech Tip.

The design changes include:

  • The size of retainer slot holes in the rear bumper cover.
  • The shape of retainers.

PARTS IDENTIFICATION AND REQUIREMENTS

To distinguish between previous and new design rear bumper covers:

  • Inspect and verify the size of the retainer slot holes (Figures 1, 2).
  • Check the shape of the retainer fitted onto the quarter panel. If the retainer has a projection, it is a new design (Figures 3, 4).

IMPORTANT: When replacing a Hyundai Tucson (LM) rear bumper cover, make sure to follow the interchangeability table above. If trying to install a new design rear bumper cover with previous design retainers, it may cause improper clearance between the quarter panel and the rear bumper cover.
