TECH TIP
Nissan Pathfinder A/C Inoperative

Vehicle: 2011 Nissan Pathfinder, 4WD, V8-5.6L (VK56DE), Automatic Transmission/Transaxle

Mileage: 120,272

Problem: The owner of this Pathfinder asked the shop to fix his automatic air conditioning (A/C) system. No chilled air was blowing from the vents.

Case Details: The technician’s initial checks found the A/C system was full of freon, all related pressure/temperature sensors reporting rationally, and the A/C request signal was on, but there was no power at the compressor. With auxiliary power applied, the clutch engaged, and the system cooled normally.

The tech checked the A/C relay, and fuse (#42, 10A). Both were both good. Using the wiring diagram in ALLDATA as a guide, he tested for power at the A/C relay socket and found both sources of power present.

The output circuit to the compressor passed load testing, but there was no ground from the central processing unit (CPU), which is integral to the intelligent power distribution module (IPDM), to actuate the relay when the A/C was commanded on.

Confirmed Repair: The technician replaced the IPDM then verified the A/C operated as designed. Problem solved!
